High school students from the Chattanooga Charter School of Excellence’s STEM class visited Reflection Riding for an exciting day filled with canoeing, water quality assessments, and a tour of the park’s native animal exhibit. Thanks to the American Water Keeping Communities Flowing grant, these students have been engaged in the WaterWays program throughout the year, with a primary focus on addressing plastic pollution and implementing litter intervention devices, such as the litter booms placed in Chattanooga and Citico Creek.
This day was particularly special, as it marked many students’ first experience on a paddle trip. We spotted turtles, great blue herons, and aquatic macroinvertebrates in Lookout Creek, all within the beautiful campus of Reflection Riding.
