7th Grade Students’ Field Trip to Hamilton County Park

On April 25th, seventh-grade students from Soddy-Daisy Middle School teamed up with WaterWays and Volkswagen of Chattanooga staff for an exciting field trip at the Summit Wetland Education Area in Enterprise South Nature Park. The students arrived eager to explore!
Among the various activities, wetland exploration turned out to be the favorite rotation. The students discovered that wetlands are remarkable ecosystems teeming with aquatic life. They also learned about the endangered status of these ecosystems; their rich soil and low elevation make them prime agricultural zones, yet they face significant threats from urban development.
Fortunately, this vital ecosystem is safeguarded under a conservation easement for Volkswagen of Chattanooga. This unique property can only be used for educational purposes, making it a special opportunity for groups to visit.
Additionally, the seventh graders collected water samples for a TVA Kids Challenge focused on water quality and monitoring. We eagerly anticipate the completion of their projects and are excited for a fantastic summer ahead!
